The Health Promotion and System Strengthening (HPSS) Project, funded by the Swiss Government and implemented by the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH) has reached its goals and comes to an end with the successful completion of its four-tier key components.

Facilitating proper planning and quicker decision-making to ensure the seamless availability of health commodities in public health facilities is just one of the many benefits of a new digital logistic system launched today by Hon. Angela Kairuki, Minister of State - President’s Office -Regional Administration and Local Government (PORALG).

Tanzania commended the Swiss Government for the invaluable investment in health systems strengthening initiatives through the HPSS project.

Regional Administrative Secretary for Mbeya Region Rodrick Mpogolo said Jazia Prime Vendor System (Jazia PVS) which complements regular health commodity supply has proved to be the surest way of ensuring seamless availability of drugs in public health facilities when the Medical Stores Department (MSD) faces stock-outs.

The HPSS project has handed over two state-of-the-art servers valued at US$37,000 to the Government of Tanzania.

HPSS project hosted a four-member delegation of officials from a chapter of VillageReach in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) that came to learn from the project’s successful research-based solutions in health system strengthening especially the complementary health commodity supply system, locally known as Jazia Prime Vendor System.

The Ministries of Health, Livestock and Fisheries, and Agriculture through the National Multi-Coordinating Committee on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR-MCC), in collaboration with the Health Promotion and System Strengthening (HPSS) Project, various universities and research institutions, under the umbrella of the One Health approach (OH), have organized a major AMR symposium, from 22-23 November 2022 in Dar es Salaam.

The Ministry of Health and Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries in collaboration with various universities, research institutions, and development partners have organized the Antimicrobial Resistance Symposium from 22nd to 23rd November 2022.

The 2022 Tanzania Health Summit took place from 11th to 13th October at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre in Dar es Salaam

In a bid to advance its vision for Universal Health Coverage, the Government of Zanzibar has embarked on a series of transformative health systems strengthening initiatives aimed at increasing access to quality healthcare services, in line with its five year (2021 - 2025) strategic plan.

Swiss TPH has been implementing a flagship Swiss-Tanzania Cooperation Project, the Health Promotion and System Strengthening (HPSS) in Tanzania since 2011.

The 17th Government Information Officers Annual Conference took place at Regal Naveira Hotel in Tanga on 9 May. It was officiated by Nape Nnauye, Minister of Information, Communication and Technology.

In order to gain a first-hand appreciation of the positive strides being made by the HPSS project in supporting the Government of Tanzania to develop innovative health solutions and supports their integration into national institutions, systems and policies, the Embassy of Switzerland in Tanzania organized a technical visit to HPSS project sites in Dodoma, Iringa and Morogoro regions.

HPSS project participated in a workshop and stakeholder meeting in Dar es Salaam from 21-25 February that was called by Ministry of Health (MoH) but jointly organized by The Medicines, Technologies, and Pharmaceutical Services (MTaPS) and Management Sciences for Health (MSH) to review the implementation of the 2017 National Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance (NAP-AMR) and its monitoring framework with a focus on Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS).

As part of its efforts to build capacity of health personnel in the application of digital tools, HPSS Project supported the Ministry of Health to conduct training on MEIMIS.

HPSS is conducting a study on the market uptake of pharmacy dispensers- a National Accreditation Council for Technical Education (NACTE) approved cadre of basic pharmaceutical staff in Tanzania, promoted to support medicine management in primary health facilities. Data collectors are in the field for informant interviews.

CHF Iliyoboreshwa, which is operated by the Government of Tanzania through the President’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (PORALG) is a non-profit health insurance scheme aimed at protecting citizens against health care costs and is implemented in all 26 regions across mainland Tanzania.
