Strengthening the health system in Tanzania
HPSS-Tuimarishe Afya Project
The Health Promotion and System Strengthening (HPSS) project is a people-centered project that follows a comprehensive systems approach. We develop innovative solutions in partnership with the Government and support their integration into national institutions, systems and policies. The HPSS project strives to improve access to, utilization and quality of health services in Tanzania.
Health Financing Policies and Systems in Tanzania aim at equitable access to healthcare services through health insurance coverage with a sustainable pro-poor financing mechanism such as the Community Health Fund.
Access to health care is determined by availability of medical supplies. Patients equate quality of care with the availability of medicines. Clinicians depend on effective, safe and quality medicines for health care.
The delivery of health care depends on adequate and functioning health equipment and facilities. Strengthening the management of infrastructure, physical resources and maintenance of tools is critical.
By its very nature, health promotion is a bottom-up approach characterized by participatory approaches to enable community action for health and facilitate community-health system partnerships.
Development and integration solutions are aligned with the government priorities for digital health and adhere to the standards set out by the e-Government Agency (eGA) without duplicating efforts and resources.
The development, discussion and dissemination of evidence is of crucial importance for successful implementation of HPSS. A strong focus is laid on operational and implementation research and its capitalization.
